Sites and Servers is run by Joel Bauer. The name is the whole business: the sites and the servers they run on, looked after by the same person, for businesses in Adelaide and across Australia. When this site says "we", it means Joel.
Why it exists
Small businesses tend to end up with a website from one company, hosting from another, a domain somewhere else and nobody who will take responsibility when the three stop talking to each other. When something breaks, the answer is a support ticket, if there is an answer at all.
Sites and Servers puts the build and the hosting under one roof, publishes the prices and puts a real phone number on every page. If your site is down, you ring Joel. If you need a sentence changed, you ring Joel. If you want to know what a shop would cost, you use the quote builder and then, most likely, you ring Joel.
How we work
Published prices
Every package and plan is on the site with a GST-inclusive figure. Extra work is quoted first at $100 an hour inc GST, never discovered on an invoice.
Facts, not adjectives
We tell you where your site is hosted, how often it is backed up and how long the copies are kept. We do not publish uptime percentages or star ratings we cannot show you the source for.
You own everything
The domain is registered in your name. The site and its content are yours. You can take a full copy at any time, whether or not you keep hosting with us.
Adelaide based, Australia-wide
In Adelaide we meet in person. Everywhere else the process runs over the phone, email and a preview address. The hosting is in Sydney either way.
What we build with
The sites Joel looks after are mainly WordPress, because it is what small businesses already know and what the next person they hire can work on. Simple brochure sites are sometimes built as plain static pages, which are faster and have nothing to update. Shops run on WooCommerce or Shopify depending on the size of the range and how you want to handle payments.
WordPress and static sites go on our hosting in Sydney with SSL and daily backups. Business and Growth plans add a staging copy, so changes are tested before they are live. Shopify shops are hosted by Shopify.
What we do not do
We do not build apps or custom software. We do not host email; we point your domain at Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 instead, because they are built for it. We do not sign you up to anything you cannot leave.
If your project is outside what we do, we will say so on the first call and suggest where to look.
