"Backups included" can mean almost anything. Here is exactly what happens on a site we host.
Every day, the server takes a backup of your files and database. It keeps the last 30 of them. If a plugin update breaks something on a Tuesday, we roll back to Monday. If you notice a problem three weeks late, we can still get to the copy from before it.
On the 1st of every month, a second system takes a complete copy of every site we host and stores it off the server, in a separate place. If the server itself had a bad day, the monthly copy is untouched.
On Business and Growth, we also take a backup on demand before we change anything, so every update has an undo button.
Yes. The sites Joel looks after are mainly WordPress and the updates, staging and backups are set up for it. Static sites and other PHP sites run on the same plans. See WordPress hosting for the detail.
Yes. We point the domain's DNS at the new server and leave the registration where it is. If you would rather we manage the domain too, see domains and email.
Email is separate from hosting. We recommend Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 and will point your domain at whichever you choose. If your email is on your current host, we sort that out before anything moves.
Monthly plans roll month to month. Yearly plans are paid up front for the year in return for two months free. Either way you can take a full copy of your site whenever you like.
